Mowin’ & Throwin’ began as a game jam that was live streamed for an Extra-Life charity event in late 2016. It took two days to produce the first prototype.
The next step was to assemble a team to make Mowin’ & Throwin’. Several members of the original team went to work for major development studios, and while everyone else was working on their new projects, we pitched Mowin’ & Throwin’ to another group of developers. We negotiated to obtain the IP rights and even brought on a few members of the original game jam team.
House Pixel Games was officially formed in May of 2017. We immediately worked to polish the core mechanics and artwork of the first level. Using our single level demo, we pitched and obtained funding to build eight levels for a 2 vs. 2 game mode.
By January of 2018, we felt we were ready to show off what we had at PAX South. We were able to get feedback on the game while there and a Nintendo Switch dev kit. Later on, we were approached to be part of the Omegathon at PAX East, which ended up being a wonderful experience.
That’s our story so far, and there is much more to come. I hope you’ll check out Mowin’ & Throwin’ for yourself and be a part of our story.
